please give me the format of a 5 paragraph essay, I know it's introductory paragraph, first argument point, second argument point, last argument point, concluding paragraph. But can you explain what each paragraph needs to include and would be the best with examples.
thank you

the typical five-paragraph essay is composed of five elements:
1. Introduction
- Provide an opening set of statements designed to grab the readers attention and introduce the topic
- Introduce three main points discussed in your essay
- State your thesis — your opinion on the topic of your essay
2. Body paragraph #2: your first argument discussed
- Transition and topic sentence
- Points to support your thesis
- Supporting examples and evidence
- Concluding sentence
3. Body paragraph #1: your first argument discussed
- Transition and topic sentence
- Points to support your thesis
- Supporting examples and evidence
- Concluding sentence
4. Body paragraph #3: your first argument discussed
- Transition and topic sentence
- Points to support your thesis
- Supporting examples and evidence
- Concluding sentence
5. Conclusion
- Restate your opinion
- Summarize your three main points
- End with a thought-provoking, so-what statement
The three body paragraph is usually straight forward, the harder part is the intro and concluding paragraph
heres an example of an intro:
In today's society, we are facing a catastrophe: too many people leading unhealthy lives. These unhealthy people clog our emergency rooms and hospitals, where valuable tax dollars are spent on treating diseases that could be prevented. Sadly, all too often, people make unhealthy choices because of their lack of knowledge of better choices they could make. High school could change all of that if more emphasis were places on physical education. Making sure students stay active will result in more students leaving high school with that healthy habit. Students should be exposed to many more sports and activities as well, which could also encourage them to continue pursue their interests in those healthy activities after high school. Also, the healthy component of gym class would teach students about all facets of image and self-esteem. Clearly, making physical education mandatory in all four years of high school would lead to healthier adults.
hook (the sentence that grabs readers attention):

Sadly, all too often, people make unhealthy choices because of their lack of knowledge of better choices they could make.
Intro to the essay:

Three main points/arguments:
Making sure students stay active will result in more students leaving high school with that healthy habit. Also, the healthy component of gym class would teach students about all facets of image and self-esteem.
Thesis:

Hope i helped~
The 5 paragraph thing is just a guide. It's a really good, simple guide, but you can do whatever you want. Write your essay how it will flow best.
intro: very general. may include a quote or something that introduces the topic in comparison to something else. great place for similes, metaphors, etc.
1st body: start out explaining your opinion. get to the facts. but don't make it boring
2nd body: statistics, facts, etc... You want to make sure the reader is not bored here because you might lose their interest. Provide some arguments that may shock or surprise the reader. you may want to include some contradictions
3rd body: make sure your opinion is heard here. add any additional facts. keep this one short.
conclusion: Don't say 'in conclusion'. go for something like... despite [insert stuff], i am firm in my belief that [stuff] blah blah blah......
the conclusion should not restate the intro but be a reflection of it. the essay must be constant and support your POV by grabbing onto peoples' emotions, etc.
