I'm attempting to upgrade my desktop computer with top of the line gaming processors, motherboards, RAM, graphics card, hard drives, optical drive, and a perhaps a power supply unit (if I have to replace it). I want to build a computer from scratch because I'm assuming it's cheaper that way then actually going online to buy a laptop or desktop with the same items on it. If you can think of a link to help aid me in this process, that would be even better.

research is right can tell you now you'll need different power supply i prefer micro center they have a big selection and paper or web site to read from don't know were you are but can find them online under micro center and they ship if you need to after you get what you want in parts you add up all the wattage's than double it for power supply
Start by doing LOTS of research before you embark on this journey. But yeah www.newegg.com is a great website for computer parts.
I agree completely.
The answer is simple: research and Newegg.
Newegg has good CPU/motherboard combos and deals nearly every day.
