I get the general hypoglycemia symptoms fairly often, but yesterday i fainted (and now a concussion sigh) at work, a hospital, and a had a blood sugar of 3.0 an hour and half after eating a normal cereal breakfast. After feeding me with toast, orange juice etc it was 6.3. When i look at the textbook answers to hypoglycemia/low blood sugars it comes up with fancy diagnoses such as diabetes over-medication, or tumours etc. I'm not diabetic, and am a young health 22 year old, except having a BMI of 18.4 no matter how much a apparently eat (which is a lot). Couldn't it just be down to a fast metabolism only and having to eat more frequently?? i.e. currently 3-4 meals a day to 5-6.

Your problem is that you don't check the labels of what you eat.
Or if you do, then you're probably not achieving the caloric requirement to add your weight.
On the blood sugar side, I'm not surprised, cereal is filled with sugar, your orange juice too and it will spike your blood sugar so high. Plus you're running the risk to develop diabetes in the future.
What you can do now is make conscious choices in the future, instead of cereal, you should eat oats with milk and some fruits on it. Drink your milk or you can squeeze yourself some real oranges. I'm not saying eating sugar is bad, but if you take excess that required, it's gonna be bad for you.
You can also take some multi-vitamins, that at least should cover what you miss. But to conclude myself, speak to your doctor, a 22 year old shouldn't be getting this things, my sister has low blood pressure, so sometimes she just faints, it's awful. And stop taking self-diagnose that serious, sometimes you can cause yourself heartaches for no reason.

I believe yes. But it could be different because I have both hypoglycemia and diabetes. But my diabetes is hereditary and I have it controlled with a diet. No medication or insulin.
But I tend to have a cup of coffee in the morning. Dark roast in order to get that kick all day. By the afternoon, sometimes even earlier I am shaking and my blood sugar has dropped tremendously. I am also extremely hungry. To the point where the stomach is screaming at me.
So yes, I do believe that having an increased metabolism could cause hypoglycemia. Coming from a diabetic I just suggest you keep a bag of jolly ranchers with you. Suck on them slowly as it is a good way to get your blood sugar higher.
I personally believe that getting a quick jolt of blood sugar from orange juice, candy bars, etc, is only for emergency situations.

I have NEVER done the phase 1 of Atkins or South Beach. They are just a little too strict on what you can and cannot eat. Rather I like the maintainance of phase 2 on the SB. Much easier to live with! It is NOT a Diet which is a very dirty 4-letter word!! It is a lifestyle. Sticking to the phase 2 format will help you to not "break" the rules. My endocrinologist said to never crave for anything. Plan in "cheat treats" once a week. If what you are wanting is Death by Chocolate Cake, have a very small serving, like half the regular serving, but plan it in so it doesn't have the huge impact of super charging the glucose levels to have them fall sharply back way low. To always stay level is the main point. When you are going to your spinning class, be sure to take snackies along. I like the Oatmeal to Go Bars and flavored water for when I am getting very active. Stop every 30 minutes or so and check your attitude and glucose levels. Attitude has a lot to do with how the glucose is doing. It is all fine and well to try to exercise like a demon to get the extra weight off, but you must be kind to your body also at the same time. I recommend you get on the phase 2 and stay there with the planned in "cheat treats" once a week. You can live with it. I have for the past 12 years!!
