I have QC inspection format on excel which I have some data which I enter and then save. I would like to know if excel using macro can behave lke DBASE ,ie, if I have another format and if I wish to extract the same qc data as mentioned above, can it be done ?

Excel can act as a database, especially with VBA programming and the use of pivot tables and functions like VLOOKUP, MATCH, and HLOOKUP. However, as Mike said Microsoft Access is much more suited to the task and it makes things far simpler. And as Mike said, you have have your Excel data transferred or linked right into Access database tables.
When you're trying to relate data, Access just makes the job a whole lot easier with it's relationships.

In the early days of Excel, many users did complex tasks in Excel. The danger is that it is very easy to loose/over-write/misplace data. The bigger the tables the more likely the inexperienced and non-meticulous user will have problems.
In MS Office, Access is a much for suitable program or there is a freeware database in FreeOffice.
Both will import existing Excel tables.
