under my computer>properties,i have an option to compress my hard drive.Is this the same as defrag.I ran it once and it told me it would take 8 hours to complete!whats the score?i only have 30GB in the drive.

Compress compresses the drive:

No they are different. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in/ useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.
compressing doesn't help defragging, infact after you compress the files on your HDD you will want to run the defrag.
