So, Ill be off to live in a college dormitory this spring and I was wondering if I should bring my desktop computer with me. The main reason I want to bring it is because I love my 5.1 surround sound for music as well as the larger screen, I also have a Macbook but it looks like I have space in my room for the desktop. I'd love to have the ability to work comfortably and quickly in my room, as well as work/browse anywhere else on my laptop. Of course I would let my roomie use the computer too!

its your choice... ive seen people bring desktops to their college dorm, but the vast majority just bring their laptop, look at the pros and cons, you say you have space for it and you love the surround sound for music and the bigger screen, but on the downside, a lot of people bring laptops to class to take notes on it.. and to the library to study with... things you wont be able to do..
if you're willing to spend some $$, maybe buy a docking station for your mackbook so you'll be able to connect your laptop to the larger screen and surround sound when your in your dorm, and still be able to take your laptop to the library or anywhere else you need to go. i think they run about 50-100 bucks but im not sure, you can prob check amazon or ebay for some good ones.
its mostly up to you if u bring it or not. u said it has surround sound but don't let movies and videos take you away from your studies if you bring it along. a laptop will do the job because most notes, power points will be on your laptop.
hope this helped!
