Some professors tell you everything you need to study for on a test, but when you take the test, you get questions mostly on things you didn't learn in class, causing you to fail. Why do they do that?

No professor wants a student to fail; however, many teach differently. As you said, some spoon feed the students with, "Here, read this, rememeber that, do this, write that, listen carefully." Others will lecture on secondary information and assign the reading. They will ask at the beginning of class, "Any questions on the reading?" Usually what happens is students think that since they won't be discussing the book, they can slide by not reading it. Big mistake; you are expected to do all the work regardless if it is being discussed. So, you are really responsible for everything assigned.
Please remember that college isn't high school, and your professor isn't your mama (or daddy). You are an adult; you have adult responsibilities, it is all about you doing what you have to do to succeed. Profs will guide you on during this experience, but you must start using critical thinking skills (ah, blame as in "I didn't know..." isn't critical thinking).
Never! Perhaps you did not hear the whole story or perhaps you did not understand the professor. Professors are in business to teach students. A college level course requires class attendance and two hours of study per hour of class. Very little learning occurs in class. Subject material is presented to students and they are expected to study it until they know and understand it. I suggest you take the questions you object to and query your professor. Next time, get a front seat and learn how to take notes. Don't be afraid to ask your professor for more explanations of his lecture.
I think at this point in time...that would be dangerous to the professor either way he/she played it! Not to make light, but if you said no, the student could potentially cry rape... if you said yes... same could happen or you could get caught...either way damn tough to clear your name... I would say NEVER be alone with a student male of female... for your own safety as well as theirs...that is why many physicians will not see their patients without a nurse present. Too many people who try to get something for nothing...Malpractice is running amuck! =o)
Most adults do not have a college degree, college is not supposed to be easy.
