I am 17 going on 18 and my parents want me to go into a residential DBT Program for the summer. Since I am almost an adult my parents think that this is the best thing to do so that I can learn the proper skills to cope/ and deal with other situations. I suffer from depression, anxiety, and self-injury. I want to get better but I am scared of leaving home and my cat. I know that sounds weird coming from an almost 18 year old but I have been sheltered my whole life thus far and I don't want to leave my house.
Before I make the decision to go or not, are those type of programs reliable and do they help? Are the people there friendly? Do you get to use your phone to talk to your family? Have you been in one of these programs? Did you get better?
Thank you, please give me thoughtful answers- nothing rude or ignorant. :)

You need to e-mail the programme and ask them some of those questions, because every place has different rules and regulations.
DBT is very good! You are very lucky your parents are sending you to a place like that, you will learn skills for life - I wish I was so lucky at your age, honestly.
I would still, at this age, go to a place like that in a second.
I would say, go for it - you are not stuck there forever, it's a few months, of probably hard work, but you will grow as a person, it's probably a good thing for you to leave home then if you are so sheltered anyways, you will have to do it eventually, and what a great place to start, in a safe environment, where you will learn a lot, and be protected from harm.
I had to learn the hard way.
Good luck. Take this oppurtunity and fly
