I have recently started to practice my chalk drawings on the paving in my backyard. I have two cats though, and I'm wondering if they inhale chalk dust or were to lick the surface would this harm them?

Hi there,
More than likely your cats won't be interested in the scent of chalk. I tried to research if chalk is toxic to cats, with no results. I would carefully check the package label to ascertain if there is anything in the pigments themselves that are toxic to cats. It all depends on the composition of the pigments used.
Of course I would try to dissuade your cats from licking the pavement, by covering the drawings when you are finished working.
But do check the chemical compounds used in the pigments.
Hope this helps,

Inhaling chalk dust isnt so good, for humans nor for cats.
Otherwise, common chalk isnt poisonous. They use it chalk powder even sometimes as extra nourishment - contains lots of calcium. So no danger at all if they lick on a little.
Unless of course it is some fancy industrial made brand with funny extras add in...
