if you want to make a partition free use winxp installation cd.boot your pc with it then if you saw your drive C: or any drive partition.make a new partition.your partition size is your choise but if you're gonna install ubuntu i reccomended 4000mb(4gb) and up.then quit it.boot xp in your HD then open my computer then if you saw a new partitionright click it and click format.dont click on yur system drive bcoz it will crash your pc.if you saw file system choose fat32 and not ntfs bcoz ntfs will not work ubuntu.then click format.voila it's finish and you are ready to install ubuntu linux.
there is a program called partition magic, download a torrent of that. defrag your computer before you make your partition. also if you are installing multiple operating systems onto your computer you need to have someone who actually knows how to do that, it's unbelievably hard to get all operating systems to show on the same boot menu when you don't know what you're doing. track down someone that is a computer science major at college, but be careful, they might make you drink strange mixtures of mountain dew and coffee because they have spent so many hours working on your computer.
