If I'm writing an essay and want to include this quote in it:
"Put it over here," she said, "and then close the door and forget it forever."
I originally skipped a line, indented then put (authorlastname, pagenumber) after. This was all fine but my teacher told me not to skip a line. If I don't skip a line, what's the MLA way of including a quote? Would I have to do this:
This is some text in my essay bla bla bla from the following quote ""Put it over here," she said, "and then close the door and forget it forever.""
so it would have two quote signs? That doesn't look right but how else can I differentiate between the quote from my novel and my essay?

after the quotes signs introducing the quote, put an apostrophe sign (blablabla, "'Put it over here," she said, "'and then close the door and forget it forever.'") so there is 3 little ticks before and after the quote......i think...
