I just need an explanation on how to do this problem so I will know for future reference.
Is -3 a solution of the equation?
-7r - 15 = -2r
Let the variable be on one side of the equation by adding (7r) to both sides.
-15 = 5r
Isolate the variable.
-15/5 = 5r/5
-3 = r
Check your work!
Substitute.
-7(-3) - 15 = -2(-3)
Order of Operations!
21 - 15 = 6
6 = 6
Great!
Now make sure you do not put 6 as your answer but -3.
