I just bought minecraft an hour ago and ive been trying to join a multiplayer server, ive looked through youtube videos and such but they were old and in those videos they just needed to type the ip of the server, but when i look at the multiplayer section in my minecraft it says 'direct connect' or 'add server' in which we need to type in the 'server address' and the 'server name' . How do i join a minecraft server?

Server Address: The server's IP (e.g. 1.234.567.net [not a real server])

Server Name: Anything you want it to be, so that you can distinguish it between other servers you put on the list

Direct Connect: Instantly join a server without needing to put a name, but it won't show up on your server list

Add Server: Add a server to your server list

EDIT:

Bad Login: Different Scenarios:

1. minecraft.net is down

2. You are running a custom client

3. Somebody else is on your account

4. There is a problem with the server

5. There is a problem with your connection

Have you looked on planetminecraft.com? If you do, they have an amazing server list that is constantly being updated. And for joining a server, the server address is the IP of the server. And the name is just whatever you want it to be! It doesn't actually matter WHAT you put there! :D Have fun on Minecraft!
