easiest thing on a mac is to program in java since everything is already there.
Use the text editor which is built is called XCode its pretty good. For a really good IDE for Java download Eclipse. It will probably confuse you if you are starting out however.
To compile in java open a console on your mac and type javacc then the path to your .java file which you have written.
To then run your code type java then the path again but this time without the .java bit
U would suggest you buy a book to understand java though
