I must be missing something here because a wench is just an old fashioned name for a female ale-house servant, today's equivalent would be a pub bar-maid, or a cocktail waitress. Why is it now classed as degrading? If it's anything to do with what they did in their spare time to earn extra cash, then that was up to them and nothing to do with being a wench, and certainly not for anybody to judge now. As for your sister, just make a joke about it, and don't take it so seriously. The true meaning of it is harmless.

Do a little research on the origins and specific meanings of the word, and present that to her. She might not think so highly of the word once she's more familiar with what it actually means.

Also, if she's using a degrading word to describe herself, she might have some self-esteem issues...talk to her and make sure she's alright!
