I read that Federer now has 11,220 statistical points, Nadal has 10,375. Are these figures computed from the last 52 weeks? Is it still possible to compute how they arrive with those figures?
In 2009, any player who finished in the 2008 year-end Top 30 will be required to compete in four Grand Slam tournaments and eight ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments. In addition, the Best 4 ATP World Tour 500 and Best 2 other events (ATP World Tour 250 and Challengers) will be counted towards a player's ranking. All direct acceptance players at the time of the entry deadline who do not play will receive a 0-pointer in their ranking.

*idk if thatll make any sense to you, but it did to me:/
Yes it is done on form. Their past 52 week form that is. If they lose a tournament they won the previous year, then they lose those points. However, if they win a tournament they did not win the previous year they gain those points. for example. nadal won wimbledon last year, giving him 2000 ranking points but he lost those this year cause he did not compete. federer came runnerup last year giving him 1400 points. he lost those this year but won the tournament so he got 2000. that would make him 600 points higher than he was before the start of wimbledon. now suppose nadal won the u.s open. he made it to the semis last year so he would lose the 760 he got there. however, he would gain 2000 for winning. therefore his points would increase by 1240 to 12615. federer would lose his 2000 from last year. even if he became runner up, he would lose 2000 and only gain 1400, so in the long term he would lose 600 and drop to 11,220. The point is, the winner of a tournament can not improve on their current point score, they can opnly defend those point. take someone like llyeton hewitt for example. he was out at the end of last year due to injury, so at all tournaments he enters at the end of this year he has no points to defend and therefore can only gain points on his record. in other words, if nadal does well at wimbledon, semi finals or better, federer will have to win to remain world number 1.
