I did that. If you are talking about making the sound come out through the speakers (sounds real good with a action movie! with my sub!) If you have a AUX input on your stereo, if you dont have one, you can get a FM transmitter. I just got one for my sister, I got it at walmart for 19.99. What it does is, you can send sounds to it, either a ipod, cell phone or even here; a DVD player. and it transmits the sounds into a radio signal, and it makes it a signal your normal radio can pick up. You can pick from like 10 channels what ever one is clear or clearest.
But with FM transmitter, you will need a cable that has a headphone jack on each side, one side plugs into your headphone jack on DVD player, and over end goes into FM transmiter, It's really simply.
Portable DVD players are designed for mobility, therefore they are typically not designed to be connected to a surround sound system. They are designed to be connected to headphones to be used in a car, airplane or small area. I am confused why you would want to connect it to a surround sound system that would weigh more than the DVD player itself. If you want to use speakers, you can buy some stereo computer speakers with a 3.5mm mini-jack. If you want it loud, then buy some powered computer speakers. If you want surround speakers, then you will need to buy 5 speakers along with a surround sound receiver. This would over course require a power source, where a portable DVD player can solely rely on a battery.
There are 2 ways to do this. Either way you need to have an fm modulator installed if your car radio does not have an auxillary rca input. An fm modulator takes an rca signal and converts it to an fm signal that your radio can pick up on an fm channel. usually 88.3 but can vary. Then you need to check if your dvd player has rca audio out. If it does then just plug directly into the fm modulator and your ready to play, if not you can go to radio shack and buy a cable that plugs into the headphone output of the dvd player and converts it to and rca, then plug into the fm modulator. There are 2 styles of modulators, 1 is wireless and one wires behind the radio. I have found the wireless to have interference problems so i would recomend going to a car audio shop and having one installed behind the radio. The wired one is about 50 dollars plus installation but is worth it.
It's not wireless so there's no interference. Basically it adds an AUX input to ANY radio.
It feeds your audio signal from a headphone jack ( or RCA cables) by FM modulation, directly into the antenna input on your radio bypassing the antenna when on, allowing the radio to work as normal when off. It comes with an On/Off switch.
