Terminal is a semi-graphical user interface to the underlying system command line. You do not need to be using Terminal if you do not understand the command line.
You'll find a variety of tutorials on using OS X's command line (which is UNIX-like) around the web. Make use of Google: http://www.google.com/
If you are having problems understanding how to use the terminal i would suggest not to use it at all. There is no need for you to be wondering around in there unless your doing Mysql
