I was putting a CD into the disc drive and my baby ran into my leg and knocked it over, the disc drive was still open and when it fell it cracked the front piece off and the metal piece on the bottom was bent but I was able to pop it back in slightly.
I can't open it from the button anymore but I have this widget that can open it from the computer. It works semi okay, it will read discs and stuff but it has issues going in and out.
Is it worth it to get it fixed? Or wait until I get a new laptop next summer?

It's a very cheap fix actually, as long as your laptop uses a standard optical drive, probably about $30 depending on where you look. You just need a new Slim Optical drive. The interface that connects the drive to the motherboard on the laptop matters. You'll need to find out if your laptop has an IDE or SATA interface. If nothing, just take it to a local repair shop (NOT BEST BUY) and have them order the part for you, or even install it. Still cheaper than getting a new laptop.
Voo Doo right, it an easy cheap fix. There's only 1 screw in the base of your laptop holding the optical drive in place. It's a 2 minute job to simply slide out the old optical drive - and slot in another one - once you have identified the type of connector.
Even if you take it a computer shop to be fixed, it shouldn't be too expensive.
