assuming you are talking about windows, pressing PrintScrn button will capture the whole screen (ALT+PRINTSCREEN will capture just the active window) (the exception is video clips that are playing. You may not be able to capture a still from them unless you disable hardware accelearation, and even then, mayb not)...
anyway ... after hitting printscreen, go into Microsoft Word, or maybe IrfanView (or some other app that lets you paste an image), and do a Ctl+V (or edit-> Paste) and your image should appear. Hope that helps.
Screenshots are saved to ram unless you got Google Pisaca running. So if you took a screen shot of the screen on vista then i really don't think you would get it. if you open up a copy of Microsoft word and do a paste you should see the previous picture you took. If it is a game then consult the games manual on where they keep there screen shots.
alt + print screen will capture the active window only, print screen will copy the entire viewable area. Open word or word pad and press ctrl + v to paste it into the program and you will see what you are after.
When you take a screen shot it is automatically put into your clip board, you don't have to push control+c. Open a image program such as mspaint and push control+v to paste the clip board into the image program

RE:

how do i go to my clipboard where is it located
To take a screenshot.. you have to press the "Prt Scrn" Button.
That button should be located at the top next to F12.
After you have pressed it, you can open Microsoft Paint, and press ctrl+v to paste what you have copied.
