few tips to avoid infections in future

1. Use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer whenever its possible

2. Always use mcafee Site advisor to stay safe from malicious websites and scam sites

3. Keep your antivirus always upto date , use the one you like , if you are not using any then install Avast Home Edition + Malwarebytes

4. Turn on your windows firewall [atleast] or you can use third party firewall like Comodo

Download.com is better at having malware free software than most of the download websites...

They have been around for a long time, and i use it for a lot of malware, and antivirus software downloads...

Gimp, Inkscape, SMplayer, Malwarebytes, Avast, Spybot Search and Destroy I downloaded and installed on 2 WinXP systems today...

The site is a genuine legitimate site. The only problem I have with it personally is that downloads from this one site are around 70% slower than from any other site. My average download speed is 215kbps but if I use download.com this reduces to around 55kbps

You have to pay very close attention to what you're clicking on. Make sure you avoid anything that is listed in the boxes marked with "Sponsored". It's also a good idea to scan the downloaded file with an additional malware utility, just to be sure. I use "Spybot Search and Destroy" and "MalwareBytes".

For the most part, yes. But I believe that some of their apps aren't. I've downloaded a ton of stuff from that site and most seemed fine, but now I have viruses. I don't think they all are bad, but I'm sure I got some from some of them.
