Is my video card dead?

I built it and it is not responding with my monitor. Is there an incompatability. All I did was plug in all of the parts and the case things. Do i need to switch anything on the motherboard or anything else. I assume it is a problem with the graphics card or the mother board. I infer that the Graphics card is being stupid. Is there anything I should do or could do???

If adding a card to replace the internal video, you would need to disable it. On some motherboards this is automatic (it detects the card), on others it is a bios setting, and some it's a jumper setting.
Also if it's a PCiE card many need external power from your pc power supply, check for any sockets on the card that correspond to a power hearder on your PSU.
