I'm looking to build a pc, and the processor I'm looking at right now is the phenom II x4 965 3.4GHz. I'm also looking at 4 gigs of DDR3 memory. But the 965 has this DDR2 memory controller feature which supposedly optimizes bandwidth, reduces I/O bottlenecks, etc...will this work for DDR3 memory? Or will this feature be void under anything but DDR2 memory? I've read that DDR3 memory is somewhat overrated anyway, but I've also read that it's good for gaming because when you're gaming, you'll notice the higher clock speeds/bandwidth.
I am interested in making this rig somewhat futureproof & to last a long time (and of course, I have gaming in mind :))
Any knowledgeable help here is greatly appreciated.

The 965 runs faster with DDR3 memory than DDR2 memory. (Unless you're comparing very high-end DDR2 memory to very low-end DDR3 memory.) AMD only included the DDR2 controller as a way to make the chip work in older motherboards that are wired for DDR2. You're much better off getting a newer motherboard than an older one for a variety of reasons.
