i recently have fixed ylod on my 60gb ps3, but now after ive been playing on cod4 for about a minute my fan kicks in full blast. what does this mean and should i be worried?
When the ps3 fan is super loud it means its really on its last life. I would sell it now before it breaks completely. Get the new slim transfer all the data and things will be fine.
Firstly, what did you do to fix it? Was it a thermal paste issue? A drive issue? How long has it been since ---you--- played the system last?
All the common sense stuff (like ventilation) aside, the first thing I would do is reapply the thermal paste on the processors. This requires a complete tear-down, but it sounds like you can handle that.
There are several videos on youtube showing how to correctly apply thermal paste (get the good $15~ish kind from RadioShack or BestBuy or something), check em out first. You will need rubbing alcohol and several q-tips to remove the old paste.
If you already reapplied the paste, look at a couple videos on youtube and make sure you did it correctly. Too much is as bad as not enough and you can't have bubbles.
I suppose the heatsink could just be dirty, too. If it's an old model, You can:
1) turn it off.
2) Turn off the I/O switch in back.
3) Press and ---hold--- the Power button, ---then--- turn the I/O switch on.
This should turn on the fan in full reverse to blow the junk out (if i remembered the instructions right lol).
If you still have a warranty send it to sony. They will fix it for free if u dont have a warranty then you will have to pay to fix it other than that u can get it fixed at a electronics shop and if u cant do any of these then just get a ps3 slim.
btw slim are okay but if u want to have memory slots and what not go for phat lol yeah if u got warrenty like the dude on top says then call them they send u a box free of charge but if is out of warranty then u need to pay about 200 dollars to get it repaired depending were u at in the world
