I have just added another 2gb of DDR2 RAM to my pc, and have seen no noticeable change in performance either in games, or in general programs. my pc is pretty good, 2.5ghz dual core processor, 512mb geforce8500 gt and a 640gb HD. Im trying to run games such as crysis and unreal tourny III better on higher graphics settings. i mean crysis on low graphics...no point really is there?
Hard drive is sata II, and my processor is also currently overclocked to 3ghz.
AND this is a new installation of windows XP, with all service packs. It is essentially a new pc. Just upgraded bit by bit over a period of 2 months, when ive had the money

Are you using 32bit XP? With 32bit XP the max RAM the OS will see (and thus utilize) is 4GB minus the amount of RAM on your video card(s). I made the mistake of buying a Dell gaming PC that had 4 GB of RAM, 2 videocards (I forget how much ram on each of them) and I downgraded to XP 32bit. I knew XP could recognize up to 4 but I didn't realize the video card space was also taken into account. My OS only recognizes something like 2.4GB of my 4GB ram >.<; I plan to upgrade to XP 64-bit so it will actually use all of the RAM I have in there... (64bit recognizes up to 8GB Ram)
I know what you mean.
any thing over 2Gig and ure not going to really see or notice any difference, and u should also notice that if ure right click on my computer and select properties u will see what cpu u have and service pack and u should also notice less ram than what u have,so if u had 2 gig an du have put another 2 gig in u may see its shows up as 3.5gig,
Games rely on graphics cards and ram on them so you will see nothing better than when u had 2 gig.
The only way ure going to see any thing different on games it to upgrade the G.card.
the 8500 is a poor card and very cheap.
Now take a Ati Radeon 4580 or 4870 with 800 stream pipelines and a terraflop of gpu power and u will see u can stick any game on Max settings and see no slowdown.
Ati 4850 kills a Nividia Gforce 9800GTX in every benchmark and it costs a lot less.
just make sure u have a 450Watts pus that kicks out more than 26amps on the +12 volt Rail.
You need to upgrade your video card. Everything else is fine, but if you want the best performance out of your gaming machine, video power is where its at. Not necessarily saying your video card is crap, but it probably cannot handle what you are asking it to do.
