Well water and methane are both coagulators and when they mix the potency of both increases greatly. If your farts did not stink (and still coagulated) then the smell of water would actually increase.

This is to do with the shape of water molecules, the helix they form means that one fart molecule (methane) fits perfectly within a water molecule therefore dampening the helix/fart molecule mixes (aka making them more heavy)

The heavier the molecule the more it sinks into your smell receptors (and taste receptors but probably best not to think about that) This causes a longer nerve impulse to the brain causing a longer, stronger, meaner smell.

The reason you cant smell the water more (as explained before) is because the methane is much more potent and overides the watery smell.

Let's try to give an at least somewhat smart answer to this curious but indeed funny question :-)

The gas molecules of the fart attach themselves to the vapour molecules the hot water causes. Once this mix hits your nostrils inside, the vapour turns back to water and as such, the gas molecules "land" there directly too, being then immediately set free to be absorbed in one go by your nostrils.

Compare it to the different way you inhale smoke from either a cigarette or a (water) pipe: the heavier the load, the heavier the reaction; or in this case, the more intense the stink!

Well, you don't have a clothing barrier.......Also, it seems like when you get out of the shower, your sense of smell is stronger so..........I can't believe I'm answering a question about farts at 7 in the morning.

i would say because in the shower people are naked and you can smell the fart more then you can if you are wearing your clothes and fart because it would be in the pants and not smell as bad I would say HOWEVER SOMETIMES PEOPLE HAVE SMELLY FARTS EVEN WITH THEIR CLOTHES ON.

Yeah I think its because when your butt hole is coverd by clothes not all of the smell can make it out from your pants, when your naked then EVERYTHING can fly out
