The only prompt I get when trying to download is "save file as." And it gets zipped. Then I have to go and unzip and install the programs. It is just a big pain in the rear end, and my IE WILL NOT function, I don't have a clue why.
Is there a setting I need to change to allow my firefox to download and install the progams I want?
Update:These are not zipped files, it does it when I try and download AVG updates (according to that, I am virus free, BTW) I just tried to download photo story, same issue. I never get a "run" prompt, just a save.

Use a download manager such as IDM or DAP.. Do a google search for "download manager"
Or go Tools>Addons and search for download manager.
Or it could be that you're downloading zipped files..(?)
FF can download, but installs must be done by you, from the unzipped file; both are manual extraction &
install.
As the above post indicates, they are sent as ZIP, so that's what you get...FF doesn't change them.
firefox do not Zip files i think you download the files already in the ZIP format. most of the files to download in the internet are in the ZIP or RAR format for easy transfer, i think you are new to the download
probably a virus try avg free
if it continues to malfunction get expert help or use the reboot disk and restart windows to how it was from beginning
Go to file and select extract all. @
