listen carefully the following tasks are very important and make sure you don't stuff-up!
first remove visual effects
goto>my computer Icon not shortcut>right click>properties>advanced>performance>settings>under visual effects only keep these ticked
show shadow under menu
show shadow under mouse pointer
show translucent selection rectangle
make sure you remove your background wallpaper.
second Previous logons
do you have more than 1 login on your coputer ? if you don't use it delete them.
3 Page file
goto>my computer icon>right click>manage>on the right hand side of the screen>click on storage>disk management(local)>now you need to make 2 partitions 1 for your page File and 1 for all your documents no programs.
to make a program click on the black coloured part of the bottom part of the screen then right click on it and click on new partiton> then click next> primary partition>then enter 1050 in the text part>THEN IN ASSIGN DRIVE LETTER CHOSE A LETTER AND THEN PRESS NEXT IN THIS ONE YOU ONLY SELECT QUICK FORMAT AND NAME YOUR DRIVE virtual_mem_no_access. IF SCPAE IS LEFT DO SAME THING EXCEPT CHANGE DRIVE LETTER AND LABEL AND LET IT DO FILE COMPRESSION
THEN GO TO>MY COMPUTER>RIGHT CLICK>PROPERTIES>advanced>PERFORMANCE>SETTINGS>ADVANCED TAB>MAKE SURE PROCESSER SCHEDUALING AND MEMORY USAGE IS SET TO THE RIGHT THEN CLICK ON CHANGE IN YOUR MAIN C:/ DRIVE SET IT ON NO PAGING FILE AND THEN GOTO YOUR JUST MADE virtual_mem_no_access DRIVE SET IT TO SYSTEM MANAGED SIZE CLICK SET THEN OK TILL YOU HAVE CLOSED ALL THE THINGS JUST OPENED IF PROMPTED FOR RESTART CLICK ON YES AND RESTART COMPUTER.

listen here BUSTER if you needed SP2 which of course you do then your computer was already very slow lol.there may be a whole lot more updates you need to download as SP2 is a complete package and even that is updated many times by now
switch the computer off then back on and press F1 and boot from CD then reload windows again
defragment the hard drive- use a utility that will defragment the system files too.
Do a defrag on your system.
eitheryou buy a new one or add RAM to your computer to improve its speed...
