I have a 2006 Ford F150 XLT and just today I was driving it, everything was normal and all of a sudden, I realized that when I press on the gas pedal and it didnt work, then I tried to turn into a small shopping plaza but the steering wheel was very hard to turn but I managed to turn in off the road successfully. A "check gauges" light came on while all of this was happening, I stopped the truck and turned it off, waited a minute and turned it back on and everything was fine and I continued to drive back home. I do not understand what to even look for any help??

where abouts are you located? these f150's are notorious for the fuel pump driver module rotting out and causing intermittent stalling issues, ESPECIALLY in salt states. easy to check; removed the spare tire, and take a peek on towards the drivers side of the truck on the frame crossmember, in the back. there is a silver box with a connector on it. that's the driver module. take the 2 bolts out, and take a look at the bottom of the module, its probably cracked right in half. Ford has a redesigned driver module that picks it up off the frame so salt can't get trapped underneath it. it's about $200, i would start there. do it yourself, it isn't bad to do!
did the truck stall? would explain no response from the gas pedal and your loss of power steering...
if it did stall you might have also noticed the brakes were also alot stiffer than normal and some of your gauges would have turned off... did u notice either of those in addition to the power steering?
The engine died. Read the codes in the computer to see if anything is there. Crank Position Sensors are a big cause of intermittent failures like that.
Most likely the engine was actually completely stalled and you were coasting. Any of 100 different things could make an engine stall.
