I have been wanting to get a game system for a little while that my daughter & I can play together or just her alone. She is 6. Target & walmart both have good deals on the game system Walmart $399 with 3 games, the 250GB system and the kinect thing plus a $100 gift card...Target has the 4GB system with one game the kinect thing and one remote for $299 and a $80 gift card.
We wouldn't be playing any of the war games just ones for her and mommy to play like Kinectimals and Just dance...
What would be a better by for us??

$299- $80= $219
It is up to you. It really comes down to the memory with the price and savings.
Honestly just buy a regular Xbox 360 (not slim) at Gamestop for 120 bucks it comes with 2 controllers and a 20gig Harddrive. You can also get a discount on the Kinect if you do so, probably for 80 bucks.
And the Kinect comes with Kinectimals so you're pretty set.
I think it all depends on whether or not you want to download content to your console. You can download game demos, videos, add-on content for games - all from Xbox Live. If you are not planning on doing any of this, then the 4GB would be ideal for you.
If more space is required after the purchase, you can always use an external HDD or a USB flash drive to expand your memory (2 devices at any one time, 16GB on each device, maximum).
Go for the 4GB console and just add space as and when you need it :)
For what you would be doing you shouldn't need the 250. It is mainly designed for more "gamers" who will be playing many "high save space" games. The 4GB system package should be perfect for you and you can save the extra hundred bucks!
