Hey guys,
I've been doing research and a little confuse about ADHD and the medications used to treat it. How can a mental illness with no subjective test or chemical measurements exist? I know that depression cannot be measured by a chemical test but the theory to treat it is drugs. Also, (not proud to admit) but i've acutally experimented with adderall 30 xr's medicines and it made me crazy! (hyper, paranoia, thinking about bugs in my skin, halluinations) is adderall necessary and is it safe for the heart. Is adhd even real or is it just a way for drug compaines to make bank?

You don't have ADHD, so you would only get the stimulant effects of Adderall. And BTW, not many people get the 'crazy' feelings you got after you took them.
Also, there are many medical sydromes that don't have definite tests to diagnose. Multiple Sclerosis is such a disease, there is no definite way to scan for it, yet it is still a well-known disease.
I am a firm believer that ADHD is overdiagnosed, and will admit that I believe it could be a gov't conspiracy to make our children smarter and to generate huge revenues for drug companies, which would in turn create huge revenues for the gov't.
But with all that said, I still think ADHD is a legitimate disease. The over/misdiagnosis of it though is what makes it seem so silly.
ADHD is neither a false disease nor real disease.
It is not a disease at all!
ADHD is just a different way the brain works in some people. The same way some people have a short eyesight. There are several factors that could contribute to the existence of ADHD or even worsen the it, such as, genetics, sleep deprivation, certain industrialized foods, and possibly cultural factors, as well. Nobody really know and it is certainly different from person to person.
The reason it is treated as a disease is the most interesting part, and if you read news related to ADHD, you would discover that other countries (there is a recent study comparing france and the USA) have a lower rates of ADHD. The reason for this difference is not the lack of above mentioned factors in these countries, but rather how the schools, parents and health professional interpret and treat certain symptoms related to ADHD.
Another important point to remember is that the big pharma companies have a strong lobby and a lot of money to influence the medical community. Big pharma only benefit from ADHD as long as it is interpreted as a disease and treated with drugs. Preferably a drug that does not "cure" and needed to be consumed as long as you live.
I hope you find the above helpful.
Back around 2004-2009, somewhere in there it came out that like 10% of school aged children were "diagnosed" as having ADHD and taking Riddlin or another similar drug. But these "diagnosis" were not scientific diagnosis, just over zealous school counselors medicating their disciplinary problems away. They say scientifically, its less than 1% of the population that actually has ADHD. Yes it exists but not to the degree people think.
