your friend is an ***. i seem to remember from school days the 70s that Calla lilies are mildly poisonous. not to worry you would have had to eat the whole plant for it to hurt you and then it likely would have only made you sick. don't eat any plant unless you know what it is and where it comes from, was it sprayed or treated with poison?
When I was eight years old I saw a Laurel and Hardy comedy, where Hardy was hospitalized and Stan Laurel took him a bouquet of Calla Lilies. Stan Laurel was sitting in the hall waiting, holding the flowers. He looked down and saw the middle of the lilies, and thought they looked good enough to eat; and he did. It looked like he was eating candy, and he appeared to enjoy them. So I went outside where we had Calla Lilies, and took out several of the orange stems sticking out, and ate them. They tasted awful! I developed terribly painful canker sores in my mouth, and I went to school miserable. I was afraid to let my parents know for fear of getting in trouble. My mouth slowly but painfully healed and I never told another soul about it. I recently saw that hospital bit on my son's Laurel and Hardy collection.
