No, but you can get hulu plus or netflix to stream videos. If you have the homebrew channel you can use mplayer ce or or wii mc to watch videos or movies off a sd card or usb and stream videos off youtube too!
Officially? NO... VLC is a PC-only program. Only Netflix & Hulu+ are supported on the Wii.
Unofficially? NOT EXACTLY... You can softmod your Wii (WARNING: VOIDS WARRANTY) & use a homebrew media player like WiiMC ( http://www.wiimc.org/ ) to view videos through your Wii that's stored on an SD card, USB device OR a LAN-connected storage (like your computer). Online streaming is a bit hit-n-miss, but there's some support for it as well.
WiiMC uses M-Player ( http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/news.html ) as it's core. DVD-Video support depends on your Wii, but results are typically less than desirable... so it's not recommended.
While WiiMC supports video up to 720p (1080p/i is not supported), it works best with 480p or lower resolutions.
You do realise vlc was originally made for Linux/Unix systems and later ported to Windows, not the other way around =| To answer the question, yes you will be able to install vlc player since it runs on just about any OS and "smoothly" mostly depends on the physical capabilities of the netbook.
You can use Netflix. Or Hulu Plus, just comes down to preference. I haven't actually tried the full version of Hulu Plus, but they allow you to demo it, I'd recommend demoing each of them before making your decision.
