I am doing MSc and it started in September 2011, but after that due to my past problems I had the severe depression therefore I started taking the services of my University's student counselling. Now from past few weeks my depression has gone really bad and even the health adviser has contacted to my GP that he should give me antidepressant as my depression is going worse as I have strong symptoms of committing suicide (my health adviser wrote me this in my email) though I have never tried to finish myself, I can't sleep for more than 2 or 3 hours, I don't enjoy the things that I enjoyed before, I have continuously back pain, and chest pain, now as I can't concentrate on my studies therefore I have planned to interrupt my studies and to restart it again in January 2013, my University allows that a student can interrupt his/her studies medical or extenuating circumstances.
Can anyone please tell me that is my excuse of depression will be counted as a mitigating circumstance?
Thanks in advance.

Yes of course it will. Universities take the issue of depression very seriously indeed. As long as you keep providing medical notes you will be allowed to take a year out. Don't worry about this because it sounds like you have enough on your plate. Depression is an illness, the same as any other, and nobody in their right mind would doubt that. Good luck! Look after yourself, and I hope you're able to resume your studies next January.
before each thing do pass and note a doctor and get help, i'd say this no remember what you've been doing. Then, if the physician is of the same opinion with your self-prognosis pass and note your college pupil help agency (names variety). somewhat a number of them have some type of counselling help and this would help you discover your own way by potential of your complications. collectively pass and note your prepare or similar on your branch and acquaint them along with your complications. At my previous college a prognosis of melancholy does no longer get you by potential of classes - you do not without delay get 5 marks further or something. What it may do is to electrify such issues as submission time limits - you may discover it more straightforward to get extensions in case you ask in the previous the last date. it may also impact what we did even as the most suitable marks got here in the previous the exam board. Say the passmark replaced into 40. we would pretty a lot without delay boost a pupil with 39 to a pass (there is continuously a mild uncertainty in marking and we would provide the great factor about doubt to the pupil). we would study the cases of scholars with 37 or 38, often times we may award a pass after the pupil had finished some more suitable coursework or yet when a pupil were impeded no longer rapidly (regularly ailment or bereavement) we may boost them to a pass even though it may count number on the different topics and human beings's comments on the pupil. although the large replace might want to come when we seen what to do about the pupil's destiny. we may enable an impeded pupil to progression when we would have made a pupil who had basically failed the tests resit or retake the three hundred and sixty 5 days. yet you should judge no matter if the staff are doing a suffering pupil any favours by potential of permitting them to progression. The worst undertaking you would possibly want to do to a pupil is to fail them on their very last exam even as the most suitable effect is per their previous consequences. I keep in concepts this variety of case (many years in the past) coming to the school allure committee even as the question replaced into posed - can we enable this pupil free on an agency with our degree? As I keep in mind we upheld the dep.'s verdict yet presented a stinging tutorial rebuke about the administration of the pupil - the pupil might want to were failed a lot in the previous contained in the technique.
I would imagine so, especially if it is as severe as you describe. However, the only way to know for sure, is to ask your Uni. Everywhere is different, and different people will have different opinions- the only way to know is individual to your circumstances.
If your depression is bad enough, there is no reason they shouldn't let you. That is a medical circumstance.
