I have had to take my Compaq Evo D510 SFF, swap out the harddrive, replace the CPU, and reinstall XP home edition on it. I now need to update the BIOS because of something about a microcode problem. What I want to know is, is this http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/S... the right thing I need to install off of this menu http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/S... If so how do I update this all. I have the SSM and the update already downloaded and I am not quite certain what to do now.
The reason I got the message from the BOIS at startup was because there was an slower Pentium 4 about 1.8 Ghtz processor in it before and I put in a Pentium 4 2.26 Ghtz. (I need something at 2.0 + ghtz)
Atualizada:Scratch that. What do I do with the ssm.bin file that has been made? Do I copy it onto a floppy disk and then reboot? It couldn't possibly be that simply, could it?

It is the one you need. It tells you how to install the update in the release notes tab. You download it to where ever like the desktop and it's a self extracting file and just follow the prompts. DO NOT TURN OFF THE COMPUTER UNTIL THE BIOS FLASH IS COMPLETED.

W TO USE: IMPORTANT NOTE: If the target system is configured with a 3.06-GHz processor and a 3.xx ROM
earlier than version 3.16, Hyper-Threading must be disabled before updating the
BIOS using Windows-based flash tools, HPQFlash or SSM. Otherwise, BIOS data
integrity problems can occur. By default, Hyper-Threading is disabled
in F10 setup. To disable Hyper-Threading follow these steps:
a) At the COMPAQ BIOS startup screen, press F10 when prompted. The prompt will
appear in the lower right hand corner of the COMPAQ splash screen.
b) Choose your preferred language.
c) From the Advanced menu, select Device Options.
d) In the Device Options sub-menu, set the Hyper-Threading option to Disable.
1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive. The file
downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a filename based on the
SoftPaq Number above.
Good luck
