i couldn't imagine that they would but just wanted to makes sure, because im looking into buying a macbook and apple charges a ridiculous amount of money for an additional 2 gigs. so if there isnt anything special about it i'll just take the ram out of my old notebook

Nope, they use DDR2 RAM. If that's the RAM that your old notebook uses, then go ahead and use it. Hope I helped =)
Make it easy on yourself and check out newegg.com... They have a guide for buying ram, you tell it what you have, they tell you exactly what you can use and how much of it... You don't have to buy it there, just print out the results page, hand it to the guy at the local computer store and you are sure to get the right stuff.. PS They don't need any special ram but this way will make sure you don't have some weird model or something
