Grade 9 algebra help!?
1. The amount of $ received in a basketball game was $5250 for 830 tickets. It the adult paid $15 and student paid $5, how many tickets of each kind were sold?
Okay this is what I got so far...
15A+5(830-15A)=5250
THe answer is 110... but then it would fit!! What did I do wrong?
One more question:
Nuts costing $9 per kg are to be mixed with nuts costing $6.5 per kg to make 10kg of nuts costing $8 per kg. How many kg of each type of buts should be used?

Update:Ohh crap... I meant the equation I wrote down was 5A+5(830-A)=5250

this is 830 ticekts.
then
(i)a+s=830
they pay 5250
then
(ii) 15a+5s=5250 || /5
3a+s=1050 || -3a
s=1050-3a
let place it at (i)
we get
a+(1050-3a)=830
-2a+1050=830 || +2a-830
220=2a
110=a
end it yourself please.
you can do the second question in the same way.
I guess you got a wrong answer beacuse you work not organize.
You have an error. You have two equations:
A + B = 830 and 15A + 5 B = 5250
solve for B in the first and substitute into the second equation:
B = 830 - A ----------> 15A + 5(830 - A) =5250
solve for A = 110
then A + B = 830, so B= 720
15a + 5(830 - a) = 5250
15a + 4150 - 5a = 5250
15a - 5a = 1100
10a = 1100
a = 110
student = 830-110 = 720
yeah the equation was wrong
your equation is wrong it should be 15A+5(830-A)=5250
then you get the adults and just subract that from 830 and get the students
1.15A+5(830-A)=5250
15A+4150-5A=5250
15A-5A+4150=5250
10A+4150=5250
10A=5250-4150
10A=1100
A=1100/10
A=110
adults : 110
students :
830 - 110
720

10 kg of 8$ per kg = $80
9x + 6.5(10-x) =80
9x + 65 - 6.5x = 80
2.5x + 65 = 80
2.5x = 80 - 65
2.5x = 15
x= 15/2.5x
x = 6
nuts type 1 ($9 per kg) : 6 kg.
nuts type 2 ($6.5 per kg):
10 - 6
4 kg.
