hey, i was originally going to buy a 8600gt graphic card because mine sucks, and i was looking around at prices of different cards and i came across a ATI HD3850 card for only about $60 more than the 8600GT card i was looking at. i know that the HD3850 is a better card and that it comes in just below a 8800GTS in proformance. my question is do you think that i should go for the 8600 still or get the 3850? i'm not a heavy gamer or anything, so i don't really need a "big" card, but if i get the 3850 i would think that it would be able to hold up to games for a while (maybe 2 years+) before i would need to get a new card. as i said, the profomance of the 3850 is almost to the 8800gts, but the price is almost $100 less than any of the 8800's. here's the chart i'm going off of. www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=1061&model2=855&chart=318. anyways, do you think that i really should go for a DX10 card, or with a cheaper DX9 card and wait for the DX10's $ to go down?

Take a look at this article from www.tomshardware.com. It has the best video cards in a bunch of different price ranges. They are a well respected site in the computor community.

A DX10 would be a very good choice, especially with xmas comming up.
The video game industry is booming with the release of new consoles such as the ps3, and no doubt the pc will have to Upgrade it's standards to keep up.
If you buy something like the 8800's then you would be safer for a couple of years of awesome gaming.
But I would like to add, the games these days are getting pretty hardware intensive, so I wouldn't blow all your money on a graphics card!
