So i installed GIMP and Inkscape but theyre not showing up as default programs that i can use to set to file types. I left click "open with" I will click the short cut to each program for the rightful program to open with and it just selects another program.
I can slide the files over easly into the program and they open, i can save then programs in this case .xcf (gimp) and .svg(inkscape) files when i draw in the programs too. The programs work fine.
They show up as shortcuts on my desktop and they worked before i reinstalled them. I tried restoring didnt work, they programs arent corrupt.
I just want to set the open with file to they corresponding programs but when i try it wont let me, and wont show up on acceptable programs
Update:its not showing up as an option even when i look in extended
and they are the 64 bit versions so theyre not directly from the site but i got the download from a link directly on the site

when you right click the file type - then select "open with" - in the new window it will list several "standard programs" (you might need to browse the programs folder to find your correct application) just beneath the list is a check box "always open with" - select your program with this box checked
there is another method but works just the same (control panel / default programs etc)
Don't do that. The only file type you need to open up in GIMP is .xcf - and for Inskcape .svg - these should both already open up in the corresponding application, if you installed them from the official sites http://www.gimp.org/ and http://www.inkscape.otg/
Don't set it for other image formats to open by default in these programs - or you will stop your image viewer from working.
Use the File > Open command in GIMP to open other image formats in GIMP.
