How? I am not an assertive person and I really want to make the people depending on me happy. I am so useless and the other people don't even listen to me. I don't contribute new ideas and I'm letting my "voters" down. I pale in comparison to other leaders out there. I feel terrible! How do I become a good leader?

First, stop comparing yourself to other leaders. Every leader has a different approach so don't worry. I'm glad to hear that you like to make those who depend on you happy so I suggest you listen to whatever they tell you as you ask for their ideas or opinions on a certain issue/topic. Being a good leader means the same as to being a good listener and a good servant (one who wants to make others happy^^). It's not necessary that you always have to be the one to contribute ideas, it would be better if you organize the ideas that your group is brainstorming. They'll listen to you once they realize that you are really sincere in helping them.
A naturally indecisive person doesn't make a good leader, leaders need to be very assertive and direct. You could learn how to be a leader but you will never be a prime minister.
Tips, try doing a DISC assessment to see your strengths and weaknesses and work with them.

The very first thing you need to do is increase your self esteem gradually im sure you are not all those things you think you are If you dont respect yourself you can't expect others to respect and follow your direction! Take some classes at your local community college....inexpensive and will help!
Based on my experiences of how I have been treated, I will answer based on the mistakes that most leaders make, which proves they don't deserve the position they have. The most important qualities for a leader are respect, fairness, impenetrable logic, and selflessness. In a way, they all are dependent on each other.
When you have respect, you are a better leader because people will not feel like their patience is being prodded and tested. They will enjoy working with you. You will know how to make commands, give warnings, or correct their mistakes in a polite way.
Respect leads to fairness. If you have no respect, you will not be fair to others. Unfairness involves taking advantage of others, turning them against the so-called leader.
Being fair requires you to use the most invincible logic. When people abuse their power, they too have excuses, but those are not valid as they can easily be refuted. It is difficult to argue against fairness.

Do your best and try not to get people killed or fired.
