Well, to me, a 500 word paper is about two pages. A good way to write a longer paper is to have points.
Heres an example:
Each point should be a paragraph. Just explain a little more thoroughly.
Points:
-Intro: What is the real definition of respect?
-Your own definition of respect
-Examples of respect
-How to find respect/How to be respectful/any other topic relating to respect
-Conclusion: Compare/Contrast real definition and your definition/ sum up all points
If you follow this, you should have five paragraphs(or more) and roughly 500 words.
Hello Bell,
Respect starts with you; it is how you relate to others in conversing with, working with or being socially involved with them. How will you know that you have interacted respectfully with others?
Answer: Very simply by their reaction to you - through their 'body-language', their disposition, their smiles or words of appreciation and not least, the warmth they show you.
Not surprisingly, people are attracted to those who behave in a friendly and sane manner. Watch any group of people in a social situation. One person is speaking and if you observe carefully, you will notice that one or more of the group are eager to share in the conversation and eagerly watch for a gap in the conversation so that they may make their contribution. Sadly, once some people get talking they fail to show respect when the don't make it easy for others to share their point of view. You will see people talk over each other and not allow a new contributor to have his say.
Respect is when people model the behaviour that is acceptable in society. For you, it is when you behave in a manner that makes others warm toward you. I guess you could call it polite behaviour. If you ever watch a good 'story teller' you will notice that others tend to hang on his/her every word.
You will possibly have noticed that sometimes we are attracted to people on first meeting them and for others, we may not easily engage with them. Respect can be demonstrated in many ways. Example: We might say to someone, "I respect your right to your opinion, however, I don't agree with it!" The respect or the absence of it depends on how we make that statement to the other person. Have we made the statement in a polite, yet forceful manner? Have we made the statement in a mocking manner? Have we made the statement in a sincere way that is evident by the eye contact and tone of voice that conveys to the other person that we hold a different view about the subject and leave him knowing that it is not a personal attack on him?
For me, respect is about making the effort to engage with others so that I and they feel a benefit from the relationship and leave feeling that they are equal contributors, especially in 'decision-making' situations.
I hope that what I have written will help your understanding. You might care to research the definition of the word - respect?
