How do you execute a MS-DOS batch (.bat) file ?
Well, I have game where the only installation file is a .bat file named setup.bat and the installation note says to run the setup.bat file which would complete the installation. But whenever I try to execute the file by double-clicking on it, the command prompt just opens up and executes some sh*t which appears in its log and then nothing happens. There is no game setup that appears. I have no idea where I am going wrong.
Please help me with it as I do not have any knowledge about these MS-DOS batch files.
Update:The easiest way to put the original file location is to drag the batch file from the original location into the cmd and then press enter. I have also tried this but still no success.

Bat files are ASCII text files and can be opened in notepad. Just make sure to save it without changing the file extension type (.bat).
Not sure what you do know so here's a few things to check on. One of the system requirements is to know which folders to look in for certain file types. This is called a path. Back in the MS-DOS days there was a file in the C:\ drive named autoexec.bat. In that file was a command called a path statement. It looked like this
path=c:\;c:\dos;c:\ths program or that program. Each location was separated by the semicolon symbol.
This is still done today but not by the autoexec.bat file any longer. So if there is a line in your setup program adding it's file location to the autoexec.bat windows will never find it there. You will have to manually add the location of the program files (its folder) to the path statement that is located in
Control panel-system-advanced settings-system variables.
There could be other issues as well but this is the first step.

If you are on Windows, in the Run (get from Start Menu and from there type in cmd) which brings the cmd.exe. Now open this Command Window and change directory to the location of where this setup.bat resides( example C:\> cd \ and then to the location C:\> cd C:\mygames\setup.bat) and just type in setup.bat and see for yourself what exactly it is doing. All your errors and what not will show up on Command window itself.
If you are moving folders without knowing what you are doing, yeah that could Setup.bat file may be looking for some other folder. Better move the folder back to its location and retry.
