You mean 12x^4 - 51x^2 - 12 , right?
Always factor out common factors first: 3(4x^4 - 17x^2 - 4)
Then try reverse FOIL: 3(4x^2 - 1)(x^2 - 4)
The if you can, do reverse FOIL for each of these: they are both the difference of two squares so
3(2x + 1)(2x - 1)(x + 2)(x - 2)
