i have a 2011 BRAVIA KDL32BX420 that has 1 usb.my drive is a seagate hd.connected the drive, which has video and music-this usb device is not supported.spoke to sony support and they told me the drive has to be formatted to fat23.i have windows 7 64 bit desktop.why does sony have to make this complicated.my samsung has no probem with this device and neihter did the lg tv.some help would be great.

Has to be FAT32? What is this the '90s? NTFS should work without problem with WIn7 (32 or 64bit)
I think the script readers as Sony Support are wrong.
Edit: But to answer your question use another PC to format the drive. Plug it in and go to My Computer, Right-Click the drive and choose format
REMEMBER - If you format the drive using FAT32 all data on the drive will be lost... You can not change the file system type without losing data...
The tv is limited to reading a certain type of formatting.
It probably isn't worth it because of all the limits on FAT32. (limited to 2gb file size, and 128GB max size).
If you do chose to do it, formatting will erase ALL data, so make sure you back it up first. It can be easily formatted directly in windows 7 by right clicking on the drive while its plugged into your pc with the USB.
I'm not on a windows computer at the moment but you should right click on the device go to properties and one of the options should give you the option to format it to what you'd like it to be.
Usually portable hd run off ntfs but u can use a program called swissnife to format it
