On my windows machine I need to setup two ip addresses. I need one that autoconfigures for my homw, and then one that will connect to a specific ip address when I bring my computer into work.
I have tried setting up the work address in the "alternate configuration' tab but it does not work. As of now I have to manually enter it in everyday and then change it back, which works, but it is really annoying.
Do you know how to setup this sort of thing?
Update:yes I have tried that. I work in Korea and the tech guy who takes care of everything doesn't have a clue how things really work...
The first time he told me my internet didn't work because the boot order of my OS's was wrong (I have ubuntu and win8) which is total crap. Anyway the point is that I really have no way to communicate with the guy and even if I did I think I would know more than him and I cannot change anything in the backend.
So there is no way to have one connection static and the other connection auto?

IP addresses are tied to the network adapter on your computer. So if your computer have one network adapter(Ethernet or wifi) your computer can not have more than one ip at a time. If you keep your adapter settings to auto, instead of manual, then you don't have to keep changing it; the OS will auto assign IP address to your computer when eve you connect to different networks.

Why do you have to configure manual IP at work? .
Manual IP address are used if DHCP on router is not enabled or you want to use your computer as a server and want static IP address. It is very unlikely that your office doesn't have DHCP. Have you tried to change the DNS settings to auto your network adapter's IPv4 settings?
At first I was gonna say no to your last question, but then I looked for for more info on this. Some people on the web say that the alternate settings usually take a little while to get kicked in. Say you keep your ipv4 general settings as auto for home and alternate settings as manual for your work. At work your computer will look for dhcp server and it would take about couple of minutes before it fails to get ip from dhcp and then it would go to alternative settings. Try this, hope it works. Make sure the alternate settings have correct ip, subnet mask, default gateway and dns server addresses.
