I'm a very paranoid person, my biggest fear is being attacked.
While I have no trouble getting to sleep, when ever I wake up in the middle of the night I am often very scared of someone being in the house.
I worry constantly about the safety of my family, friends, people I don't even know that I hear of in the news and myself - about the probability of being raped, murdered, kidnapped.
I can't walk down my own street by myself or even with the dog without being afraid anybody who walks/drives by.
I sleep with a baseball bat beside my bed.
I know all of this is not a way to live my life. What are some suggestions to cure this?

There is no one thing that will simply cure a case of paranoia. If it is controlling your life in the way you describe, you already know what you need to do. You already know that a psychologist can help you get through this. Why you are asking us, I do not know. I do not mean to talk down to you, but I feel like you want us to agree with you that you have a problem. So, in short, I agree with you, but please seek help from someone with more training than people like me =)
Well, the fact that you have insight into this and want to change it is a great first step, most people with paranoid personality disorder, let alone paranoid schizophrenia would not be on this site asking for help. I know it's a probably big risk to take for you given your current view of the world, but in my opinion the best thing you can do for yourself right now is to find a psychologist and talk about these feelings to them. This does require you to trust them with your mental well being, so be prepared for that, but if you can commit to this I think that there is a good chance you will improve and take your life back. However, you won't know unless you try. Give it a shot!
Get over it. Sorry if it sounds harsh but listen I was like this too..and for way too long. Everytime a siren wails by I would worry if someone I care for was hurt.. this added stress and anxiety is not good for your health. Worrying wont do anything but make you even a bigger worry-er
You might have some chemical imbalance issues going on. Get checked out and see if there aren't some corrective meds which might help.
