I play multiple instruments and have very good discipline on the piano I also play guitar, bass and the whamola, I have a friend who is very good at guitar and self taught. He always thinks hes better that every one because he play guitar. I really learned to not like him any more. But anyhow what I'm asking is will I advance much faster then him and pass him up in guitar where I have taken lesson for piano for 7+ years and still take so I have the alot musical experience prior and I practice every day guitar and piano. I really push my self with guitar to advance and become better. I have played for 7 months and he has played for a few years. Im self taught on guitar and I have been told by my piano teacher that if I skip songs after I start because I don't like them or they are to hard that I will never become a good musician. So I push my self. I love playing music think its a very fun. Thanks

Honestly, it varies on the person. I've met people who have past musical experience that are better than those who are just learning. Than again, I've met amazing musicians who haven't played very long and are way better than the ones who are self taught and/or had music lessons for years. It also depends on a persons drive to play, practice, and whether or not playing comes naturally or just takes time to come. You might be better than your friend or become better, but it all just depends on what level of playing you are both at not the years or time you have spent to practice. I guess I can understand what you mean when someone shows off playing those types can be annoying, but ignore them. As long as you're passionate about what you play and enjoy what you do playing music will be enjoyable for you.
