I have seen a few similar posts out there, and the advice always seems the same. My vet as well as posters on here seem to think that it couldn't possibly be anything in frontline that is actually hurting the dog. I have to respectfully disagree. When I apply frontline to my dog, he sits calmly and allows me to do it, but after it is on him, his entire demeanor changes. I have an australian shepherd. He's only a year old and he is full of energy and is generally a very happy dog. After he gets his frontline, he walks around all hunched over, he hides under the table or in the bed. He won't let anyone get near him. This is the dog that has to be under your feet constantly. He hates being alone. So, the change in his temperament is so drastic, I have to believe something about this product really bothers him. He acts lethargic, depressed, and uncomfortable for a couple of days.
I tried a different topical product and he did not have the same kind of reaction. But, I hear Frontline is the best. So I am not really sure what to do.

With any sort of medication what works for one dog might not work for another. They can always have side affects, even if it's rare.
If you feel like Frontline has a poor affect on your dog, by all means discontinue use. Try Advantage or Advantix. I have had better luck with Advantix than Frontline personally.
Bottom line you know your dog's temperament & personality best. You of all people will know if something isn't right. Follow that instinct accordingly.
Best of luck :)
Some dogs DO have this reaction. It even states it on the Frontline site. I have used Frontline for years on all my dogs, but changed to K9 Advantix this year. Why? Well, for starters, it's cheaper per box. Also, it doesn't just KILL like Frontline, it also repels (fleas, ticks, mosquitos and black flies). It's a much better deal. My dog hasn't had any reaction to either topical treatment. I feel that K9 Advantix is the best "bang for your buck". :)
As you know Aussie are very sensitive to some products,so caution should always be used. If he reacts to the Frontline in a negative way I would not use it,simple as that. You did not mention the other product that you used, please be careful,I am sure your vet has given you advice also.
If it were My dog reacting that way to Frontline, I would not use it. Period end of story. What is good for one dog is not always good for another, that is why there are so many choices out there. Some dogs do fine with tree tea oil in ear drops, My dog gets bad ear infections from it. Some dogs do fine with a beef based food, mine doesn't. Do what is Right for Your dog.
Use a different product like advantage or advantix. There are some dogs that are sensitive to frontline. You need to use what works and is best for your dog.
My cat hates getting Frontline too, because of the smell. It smells like rubbing alcohol to them, so why would they get exhilaration from getting it positioned on? Your vet does not look very efficient, truthfully i'd detect a sparkling one. I easily have worked in vet clinics that had no concern helping a customer with something that small. i'd propose having a chum or relative help with the utility and say beneficial issues to the dogs whilst utilising it. verify you grant her a lot of treats & love afterwards, so she would be waiting to affiliate it with good issues.
Most flea products work the same- advantics it just as good.
My dog acts very smilar we have had four collies only one doesnt seem to mind it. It doesnt hurt so much as feel really wierd like a stinging numb sensation- i got some on me once, on the back of my hand and im sure the back of their furry necks are only more sensitive. It never last more then a few hours so idk y ur dog acts that way for days, i will tell you my dads dog gets upset with him for a day or two and ignors him after she gets it
I agree with others that you should try Advantage or K9 Advantix. They both work just as well. I like K9 Advantix the best in summer because we have tons of mosquitoes around, and it repels them too.
The products to stay away from are flea collars and over-the-counter products like Hartz. Those have the worst reported reactions.
Advantage works just as well as frontline. frontline doesnt work well on my dogs, so its subjective as to which product is the best.
Pretty simple...try something else, find out what another vet would recommend for your dog. You should also try a pet store and see what they recommend.
