I'm posting this question because i'm a college student and i've been seeing a lot of apple laptops being used instead of a windows-based laptops. I have a Gateway Laptop with Vista, Intel Dual-Core Processor, 4GB Ram, 250Gb Memory and CD/DVD RW Drive with a 15.5 In. Screen. I Paid Less then $800 dollars for the computer brand new. I recently looked on apple website for a equivalent to mine which was a Mac Pro and the suggested retail price was around $2500 dollars for the same features that my Gateway has. So what i'm wondering what is the difference between Vista and Mac Os X operating systems.

Vista = Disaster
OSX = Ok operating system but extremely expensive
Windows XP = Still the best in my opinion fast/cheap
Windows 7 is coming out which will hopefully help vista out.
Mac computers are really expensive but they are really cool as well.
If you want to game on your computer use a PC.
I think that you went with the right choice with the PC because it is cheaper, Especially for a college student who can't fork over and extra
1800 dollars EXTRA.

I personally don't own a Mac, but I know the story. Macs were there in the beginning. Basically Bill Gates broke away and started Windows. He stole a lot of ideas from Mac and put them into Windows. They are basically the same O.S. I know Macs are more famous for there graphics, but lately PC's are right up there with them. Also, like you said, Macs have a higher price tag. I personally hate Vista and downgraded back to XP. This also increased the speed of my PC, even though I have a high performance one. I vote Windows.
Vista?? Good God.
macbooks are more fancy and better built machines.
