i dont understand how to work out this problem. the number 9 is 15% of which of the following a)45 b)54 c)60 d)90 e)9. can some1 please explain how to work out this question?????
You are given 15 pc and you have to work out 100 pc.
If 15 pc is 9, then 100 pc must be 9 x 100/15.
Answer is 60
If you find it hard to follow, try to remember the following method. It wll work for any proportion sum, not just percentages.
pc.........................number
15.........................9
100........................9 x 100/15 = 60
All you do is to set it out in columns and make sure the variable you wish to find is on the right. If it was a pc you wanted to find, you would set it out the other way round. Simply bring down the number on the right, in this case 9, and multiply it by a fraction made up of the two given numbers on the left. The only decision you have to make is which one to put on top. Ask yourself a simple question. Do you want the answer to be bigger than the given number or smaller? In this case the answer is bigger because it's going to be bigger than 9, so put 100 on top. But if you were asked to find 12 pc, for example, not 100, then you would expect an answer smaller than 9, so you would put the smaller number on top, and would multiply by 9/100 instead of 100/9.

Verified answer
15x/100 = 9
15x = 900
x = 900/15 = 60
answer is c) 60
9 = 15 / 100 ( x)
900 = 15 x
x = 900/ 15 = 60
so (15 / 100 of 60) = 9
the number is 60
good luck
9 ÷ 15%
= 9 ÷ 15/100
= 9 x 20/3
= 180/3
= 60

Learn this method. It works every time.
this problem can be re phrased like this 15% of x is 9
15%x=9
x=9 divided by .15
x=60
if in case you were not able to get the above explanation, try this:
100 %/15% =6.667
there are 6.667 15% from 100%
therefore you have to just multiply 6.67 by 9
thus 60.03 is the answer
or
3 is 20 percent of what number?
there are 5 20% in 100% right?
multiply 3 by 5
thus the answer is 15. 3 is 20 percent of 15
9 is 15% {dividing both by 3)
3 is 5% {multiplying both by 20}
60 is 100%
So the answer is 60
pretty much said. the answer is 60
